Fresh off taking pay cut, Donald Penn comes off PUP, lines up at right tackle for Raiders

Call it less than a coincidence, but the day after Donald Penn took a pay cut from the Raiders, he returned to practice, coming off the Physically Unable to Perform list. And according to media in attendance, he is lining up at right tackle.

This is an interesting lineup. They like Kolton Miller as the long term answer at left tackle. But throughout the offseason program it was Penn who lined up at left tackle in walk-thrus, even though Penn wouldn’t practice with his surgically repaired foot.

Penn remained sidelined through camp until today. And now he is at right tackle with Miller at left, where Miller started the team’s first preseason game (you can see a breakdown of his work in the game here.)

This may or may not stay this way. It could be the team is just testing this out. Breno Giacomini was the first team right tackle until he went out with an injury. Rookie Brandon Parker has also been injured much of camp and just returned to action on Monday.

In their absence the Ian Silberman and David Sharpe have gotten most of the work, but the team is only luke warm on either of their performances at that spot. They could feel like keeping Miller at left tackle and putting Penn at right tackle gives them their best starting five. At least for now.
