With just one day of camp remaining for the Raiders, they have added a journeyman defensive tackle with a recent black mark on his record.

Oakland is still the place for second chances. At least it is while Jon Gruden is head coach. The Raiders are giving Gabe Wright a shot, claiming him off waivers from the Dolphins.

The 6-3, 309-pound defensive tackle was waived by the Dolphins this week hours after he hit running back Kenyan Drake “with an elbow or fist while Drake’s back was turned during a pile up of offensive and defensive players,” according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. This hit happened while Drake was not wearing a helmet.

It was part of one of several fights in Dolphins practice and probably the harshest part, making cutting Wright a way for head coach Adam Gase to send a message to his team.

Had Wright been a starter, this may have played out differently. But the former 4th round pick was working with the Dolphins’ second team after appearing in just one game last season and bouncing around to three teams the past three years.

In a corresponding move, the Raiders have placed DT Ahtyba Rubin on injured reserve.
