Shilique Calhoun clears waivers, signed back to Raiders practice squad

Shilique Calhoun is back with the Oakland Raiders, though on the practice squad and not the active roster. The former third round pick for the Silver and Black back in 2016 was cut after Monday night’s Rams game, but since then he cleared waivers and has officially signed back onto the Raiders practice squad.

It was a little bit of a surprising move to cut Calhoun so quick into the season after he finally showed some progress with a very good preseason. Injuries on the inside of the defensive line hit the Raiders though and they had to make some corresponding moves in order to sign DT’s Johnathan Hankins and Clinton McDonald.

No other teams decided to take the chance on Shilique Calhoun though which paved the way for him to re-sign with the Raiders for their practice squad. Though not many of the fans seemed too upset to see him go, it still seems like a good move to keep him available should the Raiders need him again some time this year.

This isn’t the first time Calhoun has needed to work his way back to the roster, he also was waived and placed on the practice squad last season. It’s not what you’d like to see from a 3rd round investment but at least there is still a chance that he can become a productive player for the Raiders.
