Two days following the cutdown deadline which included the release of Martavis Bryant, the Raiders have made another move at receiver, signing Brandon LaFell to a one-year deal according to his agent.
The 31-year-old receiver had spent the past two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and was released in early August.
He was in a battle for playing time at receiver heading into camp and asked for his release.
“We have been lobbying for his release for some time now and appreciate the Bengals granting our request,” LaFell’s agent Jonathan Feinsod told NFL.com.
The 6-3, 210-pounder has never had a 1000-yard season in his career. His best season was in 2014 when he caught 74 passes for 953 yards and 7 touchdowns. He had 52 catches for 548 yards and 3 touchdowns last season in Cincinnati.
He joins a receiver group that has Amari Cooper and Jordy Nelson as the starters. LaFell will either battle Seth Roberts, Dwayne Harris, Johnny Holton, and Keon Hatcher for knock one of them off the roster.
Update: Johnny Holton has been released in a corresponding move. These moves are now official.
