Greetings, Raider Nation! If you’re wondering what to watch today, there will be two college football all-star games to watch featuring college seniors who didn’t get a Senior Bowl invite. This is a great opportunity to scout players from lesser-known schools who might not otherwise get a long look. The Shrine Game also has a tradition of including players Canadian programs, unlike the Senior Bowl.
The East/West Shrine Game is up first at noon on NFL Network. Its many alumni include Hingle McCringleberry, Bismo Funyuns, Quiznatodd Bidness and Fudge. But this year, look out for QBs Brett Rypien and Jordan Ta’amu to try to boost their draft stock. Other players who could stand out are running backs Jordan Ellis of Virginia and Devine Ozigbo of Nebraska. On the defensive end, look for Buffalo LB Khalil Hodge and Oregon LB Justin Hollins, as well as Miami corner Michael Jackson Sr., no relation.
The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl will begin at 2 PM Pacific on Fox Sports 1, and will feature an American squad coached by Chuck Pagano against the National team, coached by former Raider coach Mike Tice.
The American team features Vanderbilt QB Kyle Shurmur and Tennessee DT Shyheim Tuttle, while the National team has Washington QB Jake Browning as well as a very interesting prospect in Notre Dame punter Tyler Newsome. The game will have a ton of really unknown players from small colleges as well as prominent Big 10 and SEC schools, so if a small-school prospect can do well against top competition he could catch the eye of scouts.
Enjoy the games!
