FA skullduggery and pillaging the draft.

Greetings and salutations!

We have now witnessed the return of Chucky and his initial attempt to cobble together a football war machine(Mad Max style) with layers upon layers of ablative armor(1yr contracts) and bartered gear(talent). A smoldering pockmarked wreck is all that remains with the numerals 4-12 scrawled across the hood in the blood, sweat and tears of its crew. Al Davis' eternal flame writhes in torment and there has been much gnashing of teeth(mashing of buttons as well!) all season! Here is my attempt at the role of scryer and lets see what the ol' eight ball ....I mean crystal ball has to offer!

FA Haul: Disclaimer! I used overthecap's(OTC) salary cap calculator and Spotrac's FA list/market value calculations to do the contracts.

Initial capital: 75mil per Spotrac, roughly 80mil post cuts.

Cuts: Roberts and Penn

Tendered(RFA/ERFA): Ateman, Cabinda, Carlson, Harris, Murray, Richard, and Worley.

Extend/sign:

Bryce Callahan(CB) 4yr 28mil(Spotrac)-Slot corner extraordinaire

Tevin Coleman(RB) 4yr 20mil(Spotrac)-Dual threat RB

Landon Collins(S) 4yr 40mil(Spotrac)-Probably hit with Franchise tag but had to dream.(Clinton-Dix/ Amos alternates)

Jared Cook(TE) 3yr 21mil(Spotrac)-Balled out and should be rewarded although draft pool is deep.

Denzell Good(G/T) 3 yr 10mil-Freelanced on this one but used Giacomini's 1yr 3.2mil deal as the baseline.

Adam Humphries(WR) 4yr 40mil(Spotrac)-Welker/Edelman style receiver.

Remaining Cap-30mil

Rookie pool cap hit estimate 14.5mil(per OTC draft resource page).

Cap space for UDFA's etc..15.5mil

2019 Draft: Disclaimer! using draftscout.com's player rankings updated 1-19 which also added round grades to prospects.

R1a. Ed Oliver DE/DT Houston-As much as I grimaced when I saw that he signed with Mack's agent the tape shows an elite level talent that can play up and down the line and cause untold amounts of havoc. The ultimate chess piece for Guenther and I think he would jump at the chance to scheme Hurst/Hall/Oliver on the field at the same time. Initially he would take over Frostee Rucker's role in the defense as a DE opposite Key etc and provide absurd versatility.

R1b. Mack Wilson LB Alabama-If the Raiders don't come away with either White, Bush, or Wilson in the first round I would be shocked. Wilson is the pick with his ability to be a 3 down Lb and has the field general intangibles you want in the middle. Wilson and Cabinda should solidify the position.

R1c. Nasir Adderley S Delaware-Despite the acquisition of Collins in FA the Raiders can't pass on this much talent especially when the Raiders run a lot of sub packages featuring 3 safeties. Although Karl Joseph was trending upwards at the end of the season the jury is still out on whether or not the Raiders will pick up his 5th year option. Adderley gives them the flexibility to retain or release and sustain potency at the Safety position.

R2. Vosean Joseph OLB Florida-Very sudden player with great play recognition and the ability to stay on the field all 3 downs. Marquel Lee found a home outside this season but I see him more as a depth/ST linebacker.

R3. Andy Isabella WR UMASS- With the addition of Humphries and the resigning of Cook I was able to hold off until now to start taking offensive pieces. The Raiders have a need for speed at the WR position and Isabella can certainly supply that. Like Adderley the Raiders will coach both these players at the Senior Bowl and hopefully fall in love with their talents.

R4. Jalen Jelks Edge Oregon- DE roster was depleted and with the Addition of Oliver, Key and Jelks will contribute as long lean speed rushers to complement Oliver's 3 down versatility. Raiders will have the opportunity to coach Jelks at the Senior Bowl.

R5. Lamont Guillard C Georgia- Guillard impressed at the East West Shrine game and his Georgia tape reinforces the praise he received. With Feliciano gone and Good signed to supplement the current starting guards Guillard can step in and learn behind one of the best centers in the league.

R6. Greg Gaines NT Washington- The Raiders picked up Hankins in the wake of Ellis' injury and were fortunate to find a solid player floating around post week one. However Hankins was let go as a cost cutting move by Indy(8.4mil) after signing a 3 yr 27mil deal the year before. There may be a market for Hankins but I chose not to indulge and get a gritty NT in Gaines via the draft. Raiders will also coach him this week at the Senior Bowl.

R7a. Davante Davis CB Texas- Tall long corner who can fight for that 5th corner spot and provide quality ST reps.

R7b. Donald Parham TE Stetson-Amazing traits( 6'8" 84"+ wingspan and 36" VJ) and worthy of taking a flyer on to see if those traits translate and provide the ultimate mismatch target!

My crystal ball has gone dark so I bid thee farewell and thank you for reading this in its entirety!

RN4L!!!
