Wendesday brought some concerning injury news for the Raiders. They already had Tyrell Williams and not much else at wide receiver, so to lose him would be a pretty big deal.
Williams has had a touchdown in each of the team’s first four games this season. After him the receiving corps scares no one. Well, no one outside the organization. JJ Nelson was supposed to start last week and was a surprising late scratch with tightness in his leg. He was limited Wednesday with a knee injury.
Nelson’s absence on Sunday against the Colts had the team starting recent trade acquisition Trevor Davis nine days after he signed with the team, though Davis didn’t catch a pass in the game and has just nine career catches.
After that it’s rookies Hunter Renfrow and Keelan Doss.
Dwayne Harris returned to practice Wednesday after missing the past two games with an ankle injury. He is mainly a return specialist who is rarely used as a wide receiver, but the Raiders may not have a choice. If he’s able to go, they could end up needing him in the offense.
As for the defense, they were missing rookie top pick Clelin Ferrell on Wednesday due to a concussion. He is in the protocol and would have to practice at least limited at some point this week if he is expected to play.
