What you need to know from Paul Guenther’s week eight press conference

New, comments

As usual, defensive coordinator Paul Guenther spoke with members of the media on Thursday to preview the week eight match up versus the Houston Texans. Topics ranged from the Houston Texans offense, the challenge of defending quarterback DeShaun Watson, expectations for Trayvon Mullin as he steps into a starting role, the plan to get Clelin Ferrell going, as well as the return of Arden Key.

Thoughts on the Texans and defending Deshaun Watson

“We are looking forward to a good opportunity against Houston, their a good team, quarterbacks a really good player, they’ve got some really good receivers, they’re playing at a high level so it will be a challenge for us this week.”

“He’s an accurate thrower of the ball, he can move around in the pocket, he’s athletic, and he understands coverage. It’s been a few years since I’ve played against him, but now studying him, he’s come a long way with his development.”

Expectations for Trayvon Mullin

“I think he’s looked great all week; he’s been practicing at a high level. Once a guy gets his opportunity, you know he’s gotta make the most of it. So I’m looking forward to seeing him play and that’s why we brought him in here, is to do this for us. He’s had a really good week. Hopefully, he plays well for us Sunday.”

The progression of Clelin Ferrell

“He’s done a good job on first down on the edge, and he’s rushed somewhat from the inside. Now in London he was sick, and he lost some weight, so he’s getting his weight and strength back, and he’s had a good week this week. So we are going to get him some opportunities on the edge, inside, walk around, things like that so again a rookie player who is learning every week what this thing’s about so hopefully he can continue to progress.”

Update on Arden Key

“Yea Arden’s back, he’s out practicing today, he looks good, so hopefully he’ll be going.”
