It must be the NFL offseason because the sports world is pointing and laughing at a John Elway mind blowing QB decision. The moment Adam Schefter made the first report that the Broncos had traded for Joe Flacco, NFL twitter went to work posting some stats and details that everyone outside of Denver will find extremely entertaining.
It was soon reported the trade is for a 2019 4th round pick.
The thing is, there is no need to embellish or cherry-pick when criticizing Flacco and the Broncos for this deal. It’s all just factual data and any way you look at it, it’s downright hilarious. Only Elway.
John Elway's notable QB investments in Denver:
— Field Yates (@FieldYates) February 13, 2019
* Signed Peyton Manning as a FA
* Drafted Brock Osweiler 57th in 2012
* Drafted Trevor Siemian in the 7th round in 2015
* Traded up for Paxton Lynch at 26th in 2016
* Signed Case Keenum to a 2-year, $36M deal
* Traded for Joe Flacco
I had a few @Broncos fans asking about the odds. The #Broncos were 60-1 before the Flacco announcement and are 60-1 after.

Case Keenum has a $7M salary guarantee and another $11M in non-guaranteed salary. Not sure anyone will sign off on that. Unless Denver trades him they will wind up with $28.5M in cap charges between Flacco and Keenum if Keenum is cut

Case Keenum's 2018 season: 385 completions in 586 attempts for 3,890 yards, 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

Joe Flacco's average over the last four seasons: 322 completions in 503 attempts for 3,178 yards, 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
I am perplexed.

— Matthew Berry (@MatthewBerryTMR) February 13, 2019
The average completion percentage was 64.9% in 2018. Joe Flacco matched it one time in an 11-year career.
— Pat Thorman (@Pat_Thorman) February 13, 2019
The average TD% was 4.8 in 2018. Joe Flacco matched it once since 2010.
The average passing yards per attempt was 7.4 in 2018. Joe Flacco hasn’t matched that since 2010.
And finally, Adam Schefter back with an ominous distinction for Flacco.
New Broncos’ QB Joe Flacco has the most career passing attempts (5,670), passing yards (38,245) and passing TDs (212) by any player never selected to a Pro Bowl.

I’m not making any predictions here, but based on how things have gone down with Elway’s QB decisions the past few years, it seems pretty likely we’ll be doing this again this time next season too.
