We’re just over ten hours into the free agency negotiating period and the first big time outside linebacker has been signed. Anthony Barr — who would have been a great pickup for the Raiders -- is headed for the Jets.
Former Vikings’ LB Anthony Barr intends to sign with the NY Jets, per league source. Jets get a pass rusher.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 12, 2019
Barr is a pass rusher, but he can also play a decent bit of off the ball outside linebacker, averaging nearly three sacks and around 70 tackles per season over five NFL seasons. He has been to four straight Pro Bowls.
He’s one of just two linebackers who have agreed to deals with teams thus far today. The other was middle linebacker Kwon Alexander who signed a monster deal with the 49ers.
Mostly, the Raiders need a middle linebacker, and the big name there is C.J. Mosley. So, we await to see whether his name will surface associated with the Raiders.
