Former Raiders draft pick Latavius Murray joining Saints, ensuring Mark Ingram will be looking for a new team

NFL: NFC Divisional Playoff-New Orleans Saints at Minnesota Vikings Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

Mark Ingram and the Saints tried and failed to work out a deal for the 29-year-old feature back to finish his career in New Orleans. So, the team reeled in former Vikings RB and Raiders former 6th round pick Latavius Murray on a 4-year, $14 million deal instead.

This deal ensures Ingram will be seeking his fortunes elsewhere. Hey, the Raiders need a feature back. It’s the circle of life, right? Sorta like a few years back when the Dolphins signed center Jake Grove and cut Samson Satele whom the Raiders then signed. Ok, not quite that directly, but you get the picture.

Ingram is a two-time Pro Bowler, including as recently as 2017. He’s also averaged 4.7 yards per carry over the past six seasons. Someone will want that production and the Raiders are as legit a candidate as any as they currently have no starting running back.

Other free agent running backs still out there include Le’Veon Bell, Tevin Coleman and Jay Ajayi, and of course there’s always the option of re-signing either Marshawn Lynch or Doug Martin.

And congrats to Tay Train on his third long term NFL contract.
