Roster needs remaining

Starters (3)

RB

OG

DE

With Lynch and Martin still free agents, the team can be patient before feellng pressure to sign a veteran RB. A high end edge rusher prospect will almost surely get added in the draft. We are also well positioned to pickup a starting rookie OL in the first two rounds of the draft. So again there isnt a whole lot of pressure to sign a veteran right away at any of these positions.

Backups (1)

CB

Most holes have been reasonably plugged up at the backup spots. Its now just a matter of increasing normal camp competition everywhere with rookies and value FA signings. CB is the one exception due to a poor rookie season from Nelson. Again the draft provides an opportunity to fill that need before the pressure mounts to bring in another veteran.

Priority Competition (for unproven young or fading older starters) (4)

OT

TE

DL

OLB/DE

Last year's first eound draft pick had a rough rookie season. The need for a starting guard could help us kill two birds with one stone by bringing in a solid rookie OL prospect who is capable of competing at both OL positions. Or at least allow Good to compete at tackle. Smith is a proven starting TE but not a receiving TE. So we could use another competitor to battle with Carrier and Wallen. At DL we are young and unproven except for Mauro who is iffy as a starter. Like the rest of last year's rookie crop, Key is also still unproven. Key hasnt even played as a base SLB, Lee just started learning that position while Wilber is more of a backup. So we need to increase competition at the base SLB and nickel DE rotations.

Depth (1)

DB

Depth is where I dont think we even have enough bubble player quality competition for the final pieces of the roster. The one position that stands out is CB. But after signing two good coverage safeties, we could accomandate that indirectly with an extra safety almost as easily as with a CB. Either way I feel we need to get deeper still at CB. And Im talking after filling the above mentioned CB need under backups.
