Add some more competition for the backup QB spot in Oakland behind Derek Carr. The Raiders have signed former longtime Steelers backup Landry Jones.
The former 4th round pick backed up Ben Roethlisberger for five seasons in Pittsburgh, appearing in 8 games and starting five. In that time he went 108-of-169 (63.9%) for 1,310 yards, 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions for a passer rating of 86.2.
The 6-4, 225-pounder saw his time with the Steelers end with the final round of cuts last season. He signed on with the Jaguars at the end of October and was cut by the end of November.
He is the second backup QB the Raiders have signed in the past few days after signing Mike Glennon as well. They had cut AJ McCarron who then signed with the Texans. Nathan Peterman was already on the team, giving them four QB’s currently on the roster.
