Raiders Clem Daniels and Art Powell, along with Buffalo Bills Cookie Gilchrist and Ernie Warlick, led the 1965 AFL All Star game boycott of New Orleans and quickly forced the game to be moved to Houston (Game pitted AFL All Stars vs. defending champion Bills) New Orleans was trying to attract a pro football franchise, and wanted to showcase the city for the football world. Upon arrival in New Orleans and for several practice days, the Black players were subjected to continuous racial discrimination. New Orleans bigshots, including the NAACP president who later became the city's first Black mayor, tried to qwell the player uprising, but the players forced the AFL to move the game to Houston.
