The Raiders have hosted visits with plenty of impact players in the pre-draft period, particularly defensive front seven players. Last week, they hosted a potential all-around linebacker, Florida’s Vosean Joseph.
Pre-draft tidbits: #Maryland S Darnell Savage, a virtual unknown, has emerged as a possible first rounder. He’s visited #Panthers, #Seahawks, #Rams, #Steelers, and #Eagles among his 11. … One of the last players the #Raiders had visit on Wednesday was #Florida LB Vosean Joseph.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 22, 2019
Joseph is a 6’1”, 230-pound linebacker from Miami who earned All-State honors in high school, no easy feat in a state as talent-laden as Florida. He started on special teams units as a freshman and worked his way into the starting lineup, leading the Gators in tackles last season with 95. He also had four sacks and nine pass breakups.
The tape on Joseph is wildly inconsistent, he’s either amazing or totally lost. He has a rare blend of explosive athleticism, pass rush skills and coverage ability that make him potentially an ideal pro weakside linebacker. He will need strong coaching to succeed at the next level, and perhaps Paul Guenther is just the guy for the job. Joseph has true boom or bust potential, and is expected to go early on Day 3 of the draft. Will the Raiders make him one of their picks this week?
