With the 24th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Raiders selected Alabama running back Josh Jacobs. The consensus top running back in the draft will step-in as Marshawn Lynch’s replacement in Oakland, and gives Jon Gruden a three down back that can run between the tackles, catch passes, and block at a high level.
Mike Mayock’s former coworker Daniel Jeremiah had Jacobs as his 8th overall prospect in the draft, so the Silver & Black got good value at 24 overall. Jacobs split carries at Alabama, but that is also a good thing because he has less tread on his tires with just 251 carries in three seasons. Jacobs rushed for 640 yards and 11 touchdowns this past season with the Crimson Tide averaging 5.3 yards per carry.
The addition of Jacobs gives Gruden another dynamic weapon, one that should complement Jalen Richard nicely. The Silver & Black will next select with the 27th overall pick.
