Like it or not, Richie Incognito is now a member of the Silver and Black. It’s an out of sorts move by Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden to bring someone in with the type of red flag character issues that Incognito brings but here we are anyway.
The Oakland Raiders GM is not blind to the flaws that Incognito has in his past. However, Mike Mayock felt comfortable taking this shot on signing the former Pro Bowl offensive linemen after doing his research by contacting various former coaches of Richie Incognito’s and crafting a one year incentive based deal to prove he can excel for the Raiders on and off the field.
Mayock spoke on the signing with the media attending the Organized Team Activity practices, including Silver & Black Pride’s own Levi Damien.

I asked Mike Mayock what assurances he was given from Richie Incognito that he was going to prove himself on and off the field. #Raiders pic.twitter.com/0Yno44r2Ny

There is no doubt that Mayock appears confident and comfortable with his decision to sign Incognito, even if not all of the fan base feels the same way. It does make it very interesting now to see if the NFL does step forward with discipline for Incognito after he was arrested at a funeral home last August.
There is definitely one thing made clear about this signing as well though, the Raiders have a lot of faith in their character driven locker room to be able to handle the presence of a guy with the past like Richie Incognito has.
