Starters: Antonio Brown, Tyrell Williams
Backups: Ryan Grant, Hunter Renfrow, Marcell Ateman, JJ Nelson, Dwayne Harris, Keon Hatcher, Saeed Blacknall, Rico Gafford, Keelan Doss, Brian Burt, Montay Crockett,
Complete overhaul. Last year’s top five receivers heading into camp were Amari Cooper, Jordy Nelson, Martavis Bryant, Ryan Switzer, and Seth Roberts. All of them are gone. And from all indications, the team seems to have upgraded nearly across the board.
Antonio Brown is arguably the best receiver in football. Only Julio Jones could make a legit claim to be better. Amari Cooper did well with the Cowboys the second half of last season, but he never performed at that level in his time with the Raiders. AC was a sketchy number one receiver, let alone someone who could be mentioned in the same breath as AB.
Tyrell Williams in the X receiver the Raiders have lacked in some time. They hoped they found that in Martavis Bryant and Andre Holmes before that, but they didn’t work out.
Switzer was supposed to be the answer in the slot. Then he wasn’t and then he was traded away before the season, so it was back to Seth Roberts, who is a grinder and a fantastic blocker, but not really a game breaker. Now it’s between Ryan Grant and rookie Hunter Renfrow for that job and both are equipped to handle it.
From there you have a battle for essentially one spot. Dwayne Harris plays primarily special teams, so I’m not counting him in that battle.
Condition: Strong
Rarely have I seen a position make such a drastic change in one offseason. Heading into free agency in March, this position was critical. Now it’s the opposite. Adding an All Pro receiver helped a great deal. But the addition of Williams and Grant and the drafting of Renfrow solidify things.
