Starter: Rodney Hudson
Backup: Jordan Devey, Andre James
Last season’s Raiders MVP resides at center in the elite Rodney Hudson. Despite not making the Pro Bowl last season (he was an alternate), there is no question he was deserving of making his third straight trip. He is the league’s best pass blocking center, having not given up a sack the past two seasons and barely allowing any pressure. He is also solid as a run blocker.
The Raiders let Jon Feliciano walk in free agency. He was the team’s backup guard and center. Their attempt to replace him was to sign journeyman reserve Jordan Devey who spent the past three seasons in Kansas City playing both at center and at right guard. Prior to that, he appeared in 15 games with nine start at right guard for the 49ers in the 2015 season.
Andre James is an undrafted rookie out of UCLA. He took over at left tackle when Kolton Miller left for the NFL, but the Raiders have been trying him out at center.
Condition: Strong
We can spit hairs about Pro Bowls and All Pros, but you simply won’t find anyone better than Rodney Hudson at the center position. Feliciano was a suitable backup, but Devey may not be a downgrade.
