Ice Cube believes Raiders will win ‘at least two trophies’ in the next five years

There are plenty of celebrities who are well-known Raider fans, but perhaps the most prominent and die-hard fan is rapper Ice Cube. As a solo act and with his group NWA, Cube was known for wearing Raiders gear and reps the team wherever he goes. This week, Cube was on the FS1 show Undisputed with Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe, and was optimistic about the near future of the Raiders.

Cube clearly feels as though the Raiders are heading in the right direction and the new stadium in Las Vegas will give their on-field performance a boost. Sharpe, however, was a longtime Bronco and doesn’t take such bold assertions at face value.

Sharpe’s problem is, as Bayless astutely points out, that the Broncos are awful and their quarterback is “Joe Fluke-o”, and thus Sharpe’s arguments are invalid. While Sharpe is entitled to his opinion, when Skip Bayless is the voice of reason, he has a serious problem. Sharpe is, on this show, paid to argue, but here his words ring hollow.

As to Cube’s statements, he doesn’t say what kind of trophies the Raiders will win. They also hand out the Lamar Hunt Trophy for an AFC title. It’s difficult for any team to win two or more Super Bowls within a five year period (save the Patriots), but it’s not unusual for a team to win two conference titles in that stretch.

The Raiders are a very young team and they are on the rise. In a few years, God willing, Brady will be out of the league, as will Philip Rivers and Ben Roethlisberger. The main threat at that point will be the Browns and Chiefs, but they have serious problems of their own. So why not the Raiders? Ice Cube may seem like a pie in the sky optimist here, but it’s entirely possible that his words are prophetic and the Las Vegas Raiders will rule the league sooner than later. What will Sharpe have to say then?
