A couple weeks ago Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson was asked about newly acquired guard Johnathan Cooper starting the first two games at left guard in place of the suspended Richie Incognito. Olson responded by saying it would be a good competition between Cooper and Denzelle Good.
At the time he said that, it seemed like an odd statement. Good was the starter for the final few games of last season and was on the PUP list after having back surgery this offseason. The timeline suggested he would miss a portion of the season, so when Olson mentioned him, it was like he didn’t get the memo. Apparently it was everyone else who was out of the loop because today Good was back (no pun intended).
“Good, we took him off the PUP. He took about 25 snaps today in our walk-thru,” said Gruden. “We’re going to ease him back in, get part of individuals this afternoon. But that’s huge for us. With Gabe’s injury and Richie’s situation, it’s good to have Denzelle close to returning”
Gabe Jackson’s injury WILL have him out the first month of the season at least. So, getting a quality guard like Good back is definitely a welcome sight.
