This offseason I was asked by SB Nation to give them the name of one player who would standout in preseason and still end up being cut. My answer was Keelan Doss (no, seriously). Well, Doss stood out, that’s for sure. He was the best looking receiver for the team this preseason and today the reports are that it wasn’t enough to earn him a roster spot.
Hard Knocks spoiler: #Raiders are waiving WR Keelan Doss, source says. They’ll try to get him to the practice squad but he’ll have to clear waivers first.

Doss was a surprise to go undrafted out of UC Davis and his cut his perhaps more surprising. The problem here has always been about numbers. But not the numbers he put in the box score, the number of receivers on the roster.
In order to keep Doss and all the other receivers the Raiders like, they would have to carry seven receivers. The players ahead of Doss are Antonio Brown, Tyrell Williams, Ryan Grant, Hunter Renfrow, JJ Nelson, and Dwayne Harris.
Also cut today was Marcell Ateman per reports.
It was a dream for Doss — who grew up just down the street from Raiders headquarters in Alameda — to don the Silver & Black. He did for a few months and in four preseason games. But unless he somehow slips through waivers, that will be the end of that dream. Even still, for his part he used his time with the Raiders well. He may have launched an NFL career either way. We’ll soon see.
