Raiders claim QB DeShone Kizer off waivers from Packers

The quarterback room in Oakland just got a whole lot more interesting. The Raiders have claimed former second round QB DeShone Kizer off waivers from the Packers according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

One would assume that this claim will be accompanied by the Raiders cutting one of either Mike Glennon or Nathan Peterman.

Kizer was selected at 52 overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2017 draft out of Notre Dame. He started 15 games as a rookie, throwing 11 touchdowns to 22 interceptions and lost every start.

With the number one overall pick, the Browns drafted Baker Mayfield and traded Kizer to the Packers. He appeared in three games in Green Bay last season, throwing no touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

In the Raiders third preseason game against the Packers, Kizer came in late, going 4 of 7 for 24 yards and an interception. So, other than his previous draft status, hard to say what Gruden sees in Kizer. Maybe he just likes him better than what they’ve got, which is somewhat understandable.
