Marcus Mariota has regained the backup quarterback job with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Mariota is active for the first time this season on Sunday against the New York Jets after being on the IR with a pec injury since just before the start of the season until October. When he returned, Mariota was the No. 3 quarterback behind starter Derek Carr and Nathan Peterman. Now, the former Titans QB — who is getting paid $7.5 million for this season — is active and Peterman is not.
Meanwhile, Carl Nassib, another big-money Raiders’ free agent addition in 2020, is inactive on Sunday. He had a knee injury this week, but he practiced fully all week and he wasn’t on the injury report on Friday. Unless something came up, Nassib — who signed a three-year $21 million deal in March — is a healthy scratch. However, newly-signed Vic Beasley is active Sunday.
Defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (ankle) and cornerback Trayvon Mullen (illness) are all active. They were listed as questionable on the injury report Friday. Slot cornerback Lamarcus Joyner is also active after coming off the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list.
In addition to Peterman and Nassib, the other inactive Raiders are cornerback Isaiah Johnson (groin), guard John Simpson and running back Josh Jacobs (ankle) and safety Johnathan Abram (knee), who were both ruled out Friday.
