With the Super Bowl three weeks behind us, it’s time to get things ramped up as we look ahead to the 2020 season.
The offseason is now in full swing with the rumor mill is already beginning to spin with the news of Derek Carr potentially being traded. Mock draft season is also underway, and several draft pundits are already publishing 2.0 and 3.0 versions of their latest projections.
Listed below are some of the more important upcoming dates to keep in mind.
February 24th-March 2nd
NFL Scouting Combine- Lucas Oil Stadium
The combine hits primetime this year for the first time ever, with three nights of workouts. The time of the event is not the only change this yea. Prospects will be introduced to 16 new drills across the position specific groups.
The position that will be effected greatest with the changes are the defensive backs, who will be tested in four new drills.
February 25th
Franchise/Transitional Tags
The 25th of February is the first day that teams can apply franchise or transitional tags. Under the current CBA teams are allowed to use one franchise and transition tag if they choose to do so.
March 10th
Deadline to designate franchise/transition tags
March 16th-18th
Teams can begin negotiating with pending free agents
This two day period is when teams can legally begin reaching out to players and agents and begin negotiating the terms for new contracts.
March 18th- 4 pm ET
New League Year
At 4 pm ET the 2020 NFL season officially begins.
April 23rd-25th
2020 NFL Draft-Las Vegas
The Raiders have two picks in the first round and three in round three, giving them five picks in the top 100.
