In perusing the 2021 compensatory pick formula at OvertheCap this morning, I was monitoring to see if there was anything unusual about where the Las Vegas Raiders stand right now. Certainly there was, as it stood out that the Raiders have signed eight free agents who pick in the comp pick formula; the other three AFC West teams have combined to sign nine.

Was that the most in the NFL? As the spoiler in the headline already alerted you to, it was not the most. Vegas signed eight free agents but two teams signed nine: The Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins. So the Raiders signed the second-most, and they’d rank third overall among teams in terms of how many free agents they’ve added.

Those eight players:

LB Cory Littleton

QB Marcus Mariota

DE Carl Nassib

LB Nick Kwiatkowski

DT Maliek Collins

TE Jason Witten

S Jeff Heath

S Damarious Randall

The Raiders also lost three compensatory free agents: RB DeAndre Washington, S Karl Joseph, and DE Benson Mayowa. The signings of Witten, Heath, and Randall were offset by the losses of Washington, Joseph, and Mayowa.

As it stands right now, Las Vegas will of course not receive any compensatory picks in 2021. The division rival LA Chargers may receive a third for losing Philip Rivers and the Kansas City Chiefs could get back a fourth for the loss of Kendall Fuller.

How do you think the Raiders haul in free agency compares to those of the Browns and Dolphins?

Cleveland Browns:

OT Jack Conklin

TE Austin Hooper

QB Case Keenum

DT Andrew Billings

CB Kevin Johnson

DE Adrian Clayborn

S Karl Joseph

S Andrew Sendejo

LB B.J. Goodson

Miami Dolphins:

CB Byron Jones

LB Kyle Van Noy

OG Ereck Flowers

DE Shaq Lawson

DE Emmanuel Ogbah

RB Jordan Howard

C Ted Karras

LB Kamu Grugier-Hill

S Clayton Fejedelem

This morning at Reddit, /u/TroublesomeKangaroo posted a chart showing how many comp picks each team got over the last decade. The Raiders ranked roughly in the middle with 10 comp picks, most of which came in the sixth round. They received one third, one fourth, and one fifth round compensatory pick in the 2010s.
