Raiders 2020 battles: Which WR has the most catches, yards, and touchdowns?

There are quite a few names competing for these honors

Not a single wide receiver on the Oakland Raiders played in more than 14 games last season. Tyrell Williams played in the most, followed by Hunter Renfrow, Marcell Ateman, and Zay Jones, who appeared in 10. They are hoping for a much different outcome from this group in Las Vegas.

Which also means considering some new names.

The favorite to lead the Raiders in targets, catches, and receiving yards in 2020 is tight end Darren Waller, who did all of those things by a sizable lead last season: 117 targets, 90 catches and 1,145 yards. He wasn’t the leader in touchdowns though, as Williams caught six, twice as many as Waller.

If we remove Waller from the equation and just look at the wide receivers, who is the most likely to be first or second on the team in those key receiving categories?

Renfrow had the most targets for wideouts in 2019, getting 71 looks and catching 49 passes, also first among his unit. Williams (64 targets, 42 catches) is also returning. And it was Williams who led the receivers in yards, 651 to Renfrow’s 605.

Jones and Ateman both remain on the roster but also have uphill battles to stay there. It would be one of the stories of the year if either were significantly productive. The same could be said for free agent signee Nelson Agholor, though he’s had a bit more NFL success. Not much though, as Agholor played in a pretty good offense and has only had three 100-yard games in five years.

The two to watch closely instead are first round pick Henry Ruggs and third round pick Bryan Edwards. While Ruggs was the top receiver taken in the draft and an exciting prospect to fantasize about, Edwards has plenty of reasons for optimism as well and some of 2019’s most exciting receivers (DK Metcalf, A.J. Brown, Terry McLaurin, and more) were taken outside of the first round.

Receiver is an area that Mike Mayock has focused an immense amount of attention on since he became the general manager. There are quite a few names here. Who is ready to emerge from this group first?
