Jon Gruden is reportedly a bigger fan of Derek Carr than Raiders’ ownership

NFL Network suggests that people in the “owner’s box” might not be all in on their QB

Via a tweet by NFL analyst Evan Silva, NFL Network Mike Silver said Raiders coach Jon Gruden is a bigger supporter of quarterback Derek Carr than people in the “owner’s box.”

It’s interesting that SiIver’s comments were presented that way. The Raiders don’t have a big group in the ownership capacity. Mark Davis is primary voice in ownership.

Davis has supported Carr in the past. The key is that Silver said Carr is secure for this season. That’s all that really matters at this point.

Of course, last Friday, Gruden was extremely complimentary of new backup Marcus Mariota.

Mariota didn’t have a good day of practice Sunday and Carr has been strong all camp.

On Monday, Gruden, without prompt, gave praise to Carr when asked about his overall feel of the team as they begin to practice in pads.

“I’m really impressed with Derek Carr,” Gruden said. “He’s throwing the ball great. He has great command.”

What should we make of Silver’s comments? Just wait and see. It’s all in Carr’s hands. If he performs well in 2020, he will be a Raider in 2021. It’s pretty simple.
