Las Vegas Raiders rookie cornerback Damon Arnette has a fracture in his thumb, according to Ian Rapoport on Wednesday. There have been no reports on whether or not Arnette is expected to be out for Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers because of this injury.
Source: #Raiders first-round CB Damon Arnette recently suffered a fracture in his thumb. He’s currently in a soft cast. A rough situation for the rookie who had impressed, though he did once play with a club at Ohio State.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) September 2, 2020
Arnette played with a broken bone in his wrist at Ohio State last season and at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine, it was later reported that by Cris Carter that he was dealing with hamstring and back issues.
The Raiders felt good enough about the training camp by Arnette as to release veteran cornerback Prince Amukamara early in the week. The team is also happy with what they’ve seen from second year cornerback Trayvon Mullen, at the very least, and they’ll also have Amik Robertson and Isaiah Johnson as potential depth pieces. Nevin Lawson has been suspended for Week 1 already.
Players have played with broken thumbs and fingers before but it wouldn’t be prudent to comment without knowing the actual extent of the injury from the team.
