In an unexpected decision, the Raiders have ruled rookie wide receiver Henry Ruggs III out for Sunday’s game at New England. The No. 12 overall draft pick from Alabama practiced Wednesday, but was limited Thursday and did not practice Friday. He is currently dealing with knee and hamstring problems.
Ruggs has had a nagging knee issue since late in the first half against Carolina in Week 1. The hamstring issue appears to be a new problem. Ruggs had one catch for four yards against New Orleans. He has four catches for 59 yards through the first two games of his rookie season.
Expect to see more of Nelson Agholor and Zay Jones on Sunday. Essentially, rookie Bryan Edwards is the No. 1 receiver for now. Yes, the Raiders will rely heavily on tight end Darren Waller.
Meanwhile, in more expected news, both right tackle Trent Brown (calf) and middle linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski (pec) are out Sunday as well. Neither has practiced since being hurt in Week 1. Don’t be surprised if Sam Young plays at right tackle and Denzelle Good plays at left guard for Richie Incognito, who is out, at least three games, with an Achilles injury. Nicholas Morrow will likely continue to play for Kwiatkoski.
