The Las Vegas Raiders are placing rookie third round linebacker Tanner Muse on injured reserve because of a toe issue, per NFL’s Tom Pelissero.
The #Raiders are putting promising rookie LB Tanner Muse on injured reserve because of a toe injury, source said. The plan is for the third-round pick -- who turns 24 today -- to return this season, but he’s likely to miss at least a month.

It’s been a rough start for two of the Raiders three third round picks thus far after the team traded 80th overall pick Lynn Bowden to the Miami Dolphins on Saturday. Las Vegas also added undrafted free agent linebacker Javin White to the practice squad on Sunday and with Muse out for more than a month, this could open an opportunity for him earlier than expected.
Muse, who turned 24 today, entered the league as a safety but made the Raiders final 53-man roster with the intention of him playing linebacker. This temporarily opens another spot on the roster and whether that goes to White or another player — potentially a veteran or someone to fill a different need — remains to be seen. It was unlikely that Muse was going to play a lot on defense this year, unless bad news had happened elsewhere first.
Muse had to be on the roster for Week 1 in order to be eligible to return. He must sit out at least eight weeks.
