John Brown had other, more financially-enriching offers in free agency, yet he was drawn to the Las Vegas Raiders.
After officially signing with the team on Friday, the wide receiver said he turned down bigger offers to play with the Raiders. Brown signed a one-year deal worth $3.75 million with incentives.
Brown said the allure to play for Raiders coach John Gruden and with quarterback Derek Carr was strong. Brown will play the role Nelson Agholor had with the Raiders last year. He had 48 catches and eight touchdown. Brown had 33 catches in nine games with the Bills last season.
If Brown can have the same impact Agholor did, he will get paid next year. Agholor signed a two-year, $22 million deal with the New England Patriots this week. So, maybe Brown’s decision will pay off in the long run.
In other Raiders’ links:
- Not much from McMillian: After getting him in a trade with the Miami Dolphins last year, the Raiders barely used linebacker Raekwon McMillan. He signed with the New England Patriots on Friday.
- Potential Mariota landing spots: Here’s some possibilities.
- Not big on JuJu: The Raiders were in contact with wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, but they were not in on him at the end. He returned to the Steelers on a one-year deal. Maybe next year.
