Because of major moves (both in adding and subtracting players from the roster) there is now much more intrigue about the Las Vegas Raiders’ first-round pick than we originally thought.
Early in the offseason, it seemed extremely likely the Raiders would dedicate the No. 17 overall pick in the April 29-May 1 draft to taking a pass rusher because of a huge need there.
But the Raiders have since added top-level free agent Yannick Ngakoue, along with complementary pieces as well.
Meanwhile, the Raiders blew up their starting offensive line by trading starters right tackle Trent Brown, right guard Gabe Jackson and center Rodney Hudson. They currently don’t have a solid replacement for Brown, so right tackle is a big need.
The Raiders are also without a suitable starting free safety. Even if the Raiders add at right tackle or free safety in free agency, they will probably still need to draft a young player at those positions.
It also wouldn’t be a surprise if the Raiders take a linebacker or an interior offensive lineman early in the draft. And, yes, a pass rusher is still on the table, but not nearly as likely as we previously thought.
