On Friday, NFL Media reported that the Las Vegas Raiders could draft a quarterback with the No. 17 overall pick on Thursday night if one falls to them
NFL Media also reported that Las Vegas general manager Mike Mayock has been at all the major quarterback pro days this spring.
The quarterbacks expected to be taken in the first round are:
- Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence
- BYU’s Zach WIlson
- Ohio State’s Justin Fields
- North Dakota State’s Trey Lance
- Alabama’s Mac Jones.
Though it’s likely only Lance and Jones have a chance to fall beyond No. 9, there is a strong chance that all five of the quarterbacks will be off the board by No. 15. So the Raiders may have to trade up if they really want one of the QBs. The report stated that the Raiders have been talking to Lance a lot in recent days.
It also stated that if the Raiders do take a quarterback it would be for the future, indicating that Derek Carr would remain the starting quarterback in Las Vegas in 2021. Of course, we’ve heard these types of stories in recent years and the Raiders continue to keep Carr as their starter.
Personally, I think the Raiders should add elsewhere in the first round and stick with Carr.
