Big improvement in the desert is not expected from betting world

Our friends at DraftKings have updated their 2021 NFL regular season win totals, based on the new 17-game schedule.

Their opinion and hope for the 2021 Las Vegas Raiders — as we sit after free agency and three weeks before the draft — is, well, not great ...

DraftKings’ win total over/under for the Raiders is set at 7.5. Considering the 17-game schedule, that’s a low number. It could change slightly after the draft but for the most part the betting opinion on the Raiders going into the fourth season of the second tenure of the Jon Gruden regime is pretty grim.

Most sportsbooks had the Raiders’ win total set in the 7.5-8 range last season. They finished 8-8. With the added game, the current expectation is for the Raiders to take a small step back in 2021.

As for the rest of the AFC West, the Kansas City Chiefs’ win total is 12, the Los Angeles Chargers’ is 9 and the Denver Broncos are priced the same as the Raiders at 7.5 wins.

In the bigger picture, DraftKings has the Raiders as a 60-1 underdog to win the Super Bowl, and 28-1 to win the AFC and 13-1 to win the division. Las Vegas quarterback Derek Carr is 50-1 to win the NFL MVP award.

What are your thoughts on the current betting opinion on the Raiders?
