Jon Gruden is among favorites to become first NFL head coach fired in 2021

I do not recommend taking this bet

These days, you can basically bet on anything in the NFL. Even the bad stuff.

BetOnline.ag announced on Tuesday that it has betting odds on the first NFL head coach to be fired in 2021 ... and Las Vegas coach Jon Gruden is one of the favorites to get axed first.

Gruden is ranked at 10-1 to be the first NFL coach to be fired. It’s the fourth lowest (best bet) behind Mike McCarthy of the Dallas Cowboys (15/2), Vic Fangio of the Denver Broncos (8-1), and Matt Nagy of the Chicago Bears (17-2).

Things like this show that some folks just don’t get the Mark Davis-Jon Gruden relationship. It would be a complete shock if Davis fires Gruden during or after the 2021 season unless the Raiders are a two to four win team without any major injuries.

It’s likely just not going to happen. Gruden is Davis’ guy. The Raiders’ owner wants Gruden to complete the 10-year, $100 million contract he gave him in 2018 and would probably extend Gruden after that if the coach wants it.

Of course, on paper, Gruden probably deserves to be on the first-to-be-fired list. He is just 19-29 since returning to the Raiders and the only head coach who hasn’t been to the playoffs in each of the past three seasons to still have his job,

Still, I wouldn’t recommend making this bet.

On the flip side, Gruden is priced at 33-1 to win the NFL coach of the year award, if you’re looking for a possible longshot bet to back.
