The Atlanta Falcons have finally traded Julio Jones and he is indeed headed to the AFC.
However, the star wide receiver will not play for the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Falcons traded Jones to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday morning.
Here are the details via the NFL Network:
The #Titans deal for Julio Jones:
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) June 6, 2021
— The #Falcons get a 2022 2nd rounder and a 2023 4th rounder.
— The #Titans get Julio Jones & a 6th rounder in 2023.
— The #Titans take on Jones’ salary of $15.3M in 2021 and the rest of the deal.
— #Falcons have $7.75M in dead money this year.
Jones had been the subject of trade talks for months. The Raiders were connected to him often and one of the betting favorites to land him. However, true trade momentum between the Falcons and Raiders never happened. In the end, I never got a sense that the Raiders had major interest in Jones.
Staying out of the Jones mix was a wise choice by Las Vegas. Jones is 32, he was injured last season and he is owed $38 million over the next few years. The Raiders, who are tight against the salary cap, would have had to cut players to fit in jones. The Raiders like their young receiving group and letting them develop is the way to go.
