Silver Minings: Maurice Hurst voices support for Carl Nassib

Recently, Las Vegas Raiders’ defensive end Carl Nassib said he has received nothing about love and support from his teammates since he came out as gay in June. Nassib is the first active NFL player who is openly gay.

The fact that Nassib is getting support is heartwarming to his friend and former Raiders’ teammate, defensive tackle Maurice Hurst. Now with the San Francisco 49ers after he was released this offseason by the Raiders, Hurst told SB Nation’s Outsports he is an ally of the LGBTQ community and he would fully support a gay teammate and he is pleased Nassib is getting so much support in Las Vegas. Hurst said he has talked to former Raiders’ teammates about their support of Nassib.

“They’ve all been really accepting of Carl, and I know I would be an ally in that coming out process for him and try to be a good friend and try to help people understand why it was so hard for him and why he had to do what he did to live his true self and true life,” Hurst told Outsports.

This is a great example of acceptance and it will make things easier for Nassib and future players who decide to come out. This is a good thing for all.
