Who is for sure here in 2022?

With Mayock's firing, the writing is on the wall that we're headed for a rebuild or reload if you prefer the softer term. The coaching tree is going to get an overhaul, with the roster to follow. So who's staying?

Hunter Renfrow

Malcolm Koonce

Divine Diablo

Nate Hobbs

That's 19 guys I think are for sure here no matter who the coach is, out of a total 35 guys under contract in 2022. 9 offense, 8 defense, and 2 special teams. We currently sit at just shy of $40M in cap space, which puts us at 11th most. And we still have some guys we can easily cut to save cash.

Cory Littleton saves $11.75M post June 1

Carl Nassib saves $8M post June 1

Nick Kwiatkoski saves $7M post June 1

That puts us at around $67M cap space with about 32 guys under contract. That would put us at 3rd most cap space. That does put us at near the fewest guys under contract. That would be the Chiefs with only 30 guys. But the average number of players under contract is 40 (mean: 40.6, median:40, mode: 40).

We should spend just about all of that $40-45M (we're probably going to have a few minor cuts as well) in early free agency. Remember we have to wait until June to cut these 3. Then we use that almost $27M to sign the draft class and consider extensions vs free agency round 2. We have essentially the standard draft class (2 5th rounders no 6th).

So we're actually in pretty good shape I think.

And who can we start salivating for in the upcoming free agency? Check out some upcoming FAs. These teams are in cap hell and are unlikely to be able to retain their upcoming free agents in order from worst:

Saints (-$64M), Packers (-$42M), Cowboys (-$13M), Vikings, Rams (the last team already over the cap), Giants, Bills, Titans, Falcons ($10M), 49ers, Eagles, Patriots, Cardinals, Ravens, Buccaneers, Texans (just shy of $20M)
