"As the game went on, for four quarters, they became the better team," interim coach Antonio Pierce said after his team fell to 5-7. "We had a quarter here or there, and as the game goes on, there’s a reason why Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in football and (Travis) Kelce’s there."
Do you think we were a bit to conservative with more running plays and kicking Field Goals on 4th and 1?
"I’m not going to second guess myself," Pierce said. "We went into the game with a certain mindset that if we got opportunities to put on points, let’s put on points."
Amik, I’d like your take...
"Going against them, you’ve got to find a way — especially if you go up like that," cornerback Amik Robertson said. "Stand on their throats. That’s for both sides of the ball."
I swear on my mechanical heart, I still think we can beat this team. We just need to stay consistent..
"It’s hard to do that against this team, to not put drives together," O’Connell said, "We kept our defense on the field for too long."
"Opportunities were there," interim coach Antonio Pierce said. "Plays were there. We had a hard time rebounding from (stalled drives). We like the concepts. We’re just not hitting on them."
When I see the ball a few feet away from our Receivers? That;s exactly what our Coach is talking about.
"We definitely didn’t play well enough," O’Connell said. "We needed to put drives together and keep our defense off the field. We have to do a better job of sustaining and executing, especially against a really good team like that. Lock in every drive and do your job."
The job was done well in the 1st Quarter. After 21 unanswered points? We could not get back into our rhythm.
"We let some plays get away from us offensively," Pierce said. "It comes down to execution, and we’re going to have to work on that. Our plan from the beginning was to be aggressive, but it’s difficult when you miss opportunities … Obviously, we all need to be better."
At least the Offensive Line kept AOC clean most of the game. The Offense only gave up one sack.
"They did an awesome job," he said. "They throw a lot of different things at you and continue that throughout the game. They threw new looks, some we’ve seen and some we haven’t. Kudos to the line for playing really hard and keeping me upright." Coach Pierce said
Tae, was the KC Defense really that good in the 2nd half?
"No disrespect to them, but it was more about what we were doing," Adams said. "We just didn’t really execute the way we had been that put us in position to put points on the board. We have to do a better job of sticking to the things that get us to that point, staying aggressive and finding a way to finish."
Every Week we get a little bit better. It is just disappointing we still run out of gas when we need more juice in the final Quarters.
"It’s frustrating, and it’s confusing. I don’t know why it went the way it did, but we just couldn’t figure it out in the second half."
AOC had regrets..
"With Davante, you try to look for opportunities as much as you can," O’Connell said. "I know I missed him on that third-and-8 at the end of the game, and I missed him on a few more. It’s my responsibility to get him the ball."
Even with our defending rushing champion having a decent game, we still couldn’t get the W.
Josh Jacobs carried the rock 20 times for 110 yards and caught four passes for 15 yards.
"We started fast. We started how we wanted to. We just didn’t sustain it toward the end." Jacobs said.
"We didn’t execute," interim coach Antonio Pierce said of the fourth-down failure. "Poor execution. Poor alignment. Didn’t give ourselves a chance. The play was over before we snapped it."
Yikes! Can’t we call a timeout? At least #8 got loose after great blocks from Kolton Miller and Mike Mayer in the 1st Quarter.
After fielding a handoff from quarterback Aidan O’Connell, Jacobs cut off tackle and accelerated down the left sideline — stiff-arming Chiefs safety Mike Edwards altogether out of the play for his longest run this season.. 63 blessed yards!
Asked about the play, Jacobs said succinctly, "It was all right, I guess."
Stay humble, JJ.
Did the KC Defense step up their game after the Raiders lead 14-0?
"I didn’t even feel like they …," said Jacobs, his voice trailing into a midsentence stop. "Naw. Naw. Naw.
"We had an adjustment to their adjustment. It just didn’t work out that way."
Maxx Crosby did his best to be the first player this year to play after being listed as DOUBTFUL to play. Somehow, I knew our Captain wasn’t going to miss this game..
"It’s been rough," Crosby said after a 31-17 loss Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. "It was a long week, battled a lot of things. But I don’t want to miss any games regardless. Things happen in life. I’ve been through a lot in general. Some people have their opinions and think I’m crazy, but I know I’m crazy. So it’s fun; I love it."
Crosby, the first player in the NFL to play this season despite a doubtful tag, has been dealing with a knee issue since the first month of the season, and the area was heavily bandaged in the locker room. According to the CBS broadcast crew, Crosby said the knee will have to be addressed in the offseason.
His hospital stay had to do with an infection, but Crosby did not say whether the two conditions were related.
"I had some real issues going on," he said. "I was down for the count for a few days. I’m lucky I have great people and a great team around me that helped me a lot."
"I was in a lot of pain, I’ll say that," he said. "But it’s what it is. I train all year round to do this, to give myself the opportunity to play 17 guaranteed games, and if I can go, I’m going to go."
Even Patrick Mahomes gave Maxx the proper respect!
"He’s a dog, man. The fact he played today speaks to who he is," Mahomes said. "That’s the kind of guy you want on your team. I have a ton of respect for him."
In other news, Marcus Peters was released from the team on Monday due to poor play and jawing back to our Coaches. I saw enough one arm tackles to know this is a good decision..
The move enables the Raiders to get closer looks at rookie cornerback Jakorian Bennett and recently-acquired cornerback Jack Jones, a second-year player who took over for Peters after Sunday’s benching.
The Raiders also hope to get veteran cornerback Brandon Facyson back after their bye week. Facyson has been on the injured-reserve list since training camp with a shin injury.
"It’s next-man-up mentality," Pierce said. "We got some young guys there, JB, Jack Jones just got here. Hope to get some more guys healthy and in the mix. Just a great opportunity for some of our younger players."
Alright Alright Alright Nation, that’s it for this Week! I’ll see you in two short Weeks when we face the Minnesota Vikings! The team might not be committed to starting Josh Dobbs!
