Derek Carr watch Week 14: Saints win and tie division lead despite Carr’s performance

Don’t let the scoreboard fool you, Carr was bad on Sunday

While Darren Waller is eligible to return from injured reserve, Waller won’t be playing tonight on Monday Night Football and is expected to hit the field next week. So, we’ll just be checking in on former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, whose team managed to get a win despite his play.

Derek Carr

  • Stats: 18/26, 119 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
  • Game result: 28-6, Saints win

Carr and the Saints pulled away late in the game with a couple of fourth-quarter touchdown drives, one that was set up by the Panthers going for it deep in their own territory. As the quarterback’s stat line shows, this game was more of a defensive struggle and determined which offense made the fewest mistakes instead of the most big plays.

It also seems like Carr’s new teammates are getting frustrated with him. Earlier in the week, New Orleans’ head coach Dennis Allen was asked about wide receiver Mike Thomas’ tweets/posts on X that were subtly critical of Carr and Allen responded, “We’ll keep that in-house,” via Saints Wire. Thomas later deactivated his social media account.

However, it doesn't stop there. During Sunday’s game, center Erik McCoy was seen getting into a screaming match with Carr after a play where the quarterback was sacked and visibly upset with the offensive line.

NFC South Standings

  1. Tampa Bay 6-7
  2. Atlanta 6-7
  3. New Orleans 6-7
  4. Carolina 1-12

Per ESPN, the Buccaneers win tie break over the Falcons based on the best win percentage in common games and win tie break over the Saints based on head-to-head win percentage. Tampa also beat Atlanta on Sunday to create this three-way tie scenario.

The Saints have another very winnable matchup next week with the Giants but then have a tough stretch to finish the season, hitting the road against the Rams and Buccaneers before rounding things out by hosting the Falcons.
