Another week, another backup quarterback,
The Las Vegas Raiders will host the Los Angeles Chargers without standout quarterback Justin Herbert, according to ESPN. Herbert fractured his right index finger in a loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday. The Chargers visit Las Vegas on Thursday night with a 5:15 p.m. PT kickoff.
Chargers’ QB Justin Herbert is not expected to play Thursday night vs the Raiders due to his fractured right index finger and he will be consulting with Dr. Steven Shin to determine the extent of the injury and how much time he will miss, per source.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) December 11, 2023
Chargers coach Brandon Staley told reporters Monday morning that Herbert is till consulting with doctors and there has been no determination on his availability for the Raiders’ game.
Still, all signs point to the Chargers going with Easton Stick as their starter at Las Vegas. He finished Sunday’s 24-7 defeat. He was 13 of 24 for 179 yards. Stick had attempted just one NFL pass prior to Sunday.
It’s almost incredible to fathom the lack of quality quarterbacks the Raiders have faced this season. It’s been a parade of backup and lower-echelon quarterbacks and it appears that will continue in Week 15.
