The Las Vegas Raiders signed rookie defensive tackle Nesta Jade Silvera to the practice squad. he was waived Wednesday and he cleared waivers Thursday.

The Las Vegas Raiders said goodbye to the first member of their 2023 draft class Wednesday as they waived defensive tackle Nesta Jade Silvera.

He was a seventh-round pick from Arizona State. He transferred to Arizona State in 2022 from Miami, so he did not overlap with Raiders’ interim head coach Antonio Pierce in Tempe.

Silvera was one of nine draft choices made by former general manager Dave Ziegler, who was fired along with head coach Josh McDaniels on October 31. Two of the Raiders 2022 draft picks, defensive tackle Neil Farrell and Matthew Butler, are no long on the active roster. Farrell was traded to Kansas City and Butler is on the practice squad.

2023 third-round pick, Byron Young, is the only of the four Ziegler defensive tackles who he drafted who is on the roster. He hasn’t played since Week 7.

The Raiders spoke highly of Silvera and was excited by his play in the preseason and in training camp. Yet, he di not make an impact during the season. He was active in just two games, in Week 4 and Week 9. He played a total of 24 defensive snaps. He had two tackles.

Silvera will be available on waivers Thursday. If he clears waivers, the Raiders could sign him to the practice squad. But did officially add 379-pound defensive tackle Marquan McCall to the practice squad. He had 15 tackles with Carolina as a rookie in 2022.
