The Las Vegas Raiders are in their playoff push and ready for Sunday's matchup. They are taking the trip to Indianapolis to take on the Indianapolis Colts in what could be a make-or-break game for both teams.
If the Raiders lose, they would be eliminated in most playoff scenarios. Interim head coach Antonio Pierce has helped get the franchise in this spot with his leadership. The defense has become one of the best in the NFL since Week 9, carrying the team to a 4-3 record.
This has caught the eye of Mark Davis, who is deciding whether to bring on Pierce full-time and remove the interim label. NFL.com reported this morning that Mark Davis enjoys what he sees on the field.
Owner Mark Davis has told people close to him that he’s increasingly impressed by interim head coach Antonio Pierce, who is 4-3 since replacing Josh McDaniels — including a 20-14 triumph last week at Kansas City.
However, the rumors of Harbaugh and Gruden still linger as Davis chooses—also a return to the Patriot way.
Davis is a believer that you need a big name in Las Vegas, and his two coaches there so far (Jon Gruden and McDaniels) fit the bill. Who could it be this time? Bill Belichick is certainly one if he becomes available, though it’s hard to imagine a return to the Patriot Way would play well in the locker room after McDaniels’ 9-16 stint. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, a former Raiders assistant coach, would qualify. And Davis still loves Gruden, who hasn’t taken a full-time coaching role since his resignation from the Raiders in 2021.
Pierce has an accurate shot at retaining the coaching job, but Vegas is all about star power. Davis has a tough decision after this last blunder from his previous hire.
