Offense (26)
QB (3)
Garrapollo, Hoyer, O'Connell
JG is a proven playoff-caliber QB when healthy. Unfortunately, too often he's not healthy. Hoyer is more of a coach on the field rather than NFL player. O'Connell is a rookie with NFL traits that could win the QB2 job early in the season. Most of us would be much more comfortable if he does. Expect Garbers to stick on the PS as more insurance.
OL (9)
Miller, Parham, James, Bars, Eluemenor, Parker, Munford, Muti, McClendon
All 5 starters return but competition will be fierce. McClendon makes it as a UDFA and joins Muti to push Bars at RG. RT will be a tough battle but I expect Parker to win the spot, in this scheme he could be quite effective. Munford might have something to say about that when it's time to suit up for real.
RB (6)
Jacobs, White, Abdullah, McCormick, Brown, Johnson
Jacobs returns on the tag as RB1 and hopefully they'll agree on a 2-3 year extension. Brown takes over Bolden's role on ST. McCormick is a young, quick back that should push Abdullah for a 3rd down role. Johnson returns at FB.
WR (5)
Adams, Meyers, Tucker, Carter, Dorsett
Adams is All-World. All signs point to Renfrow being traded and replaced with a cheaper younger option in 3rd round draft pick Tucker. Meyers is a solid WR2. Dorsett provides deep speed and Carter is that versatile WR/ST player that McDaniels covets.
TE (3)
Hooper, Meyer, Howard
Well rounded Hooper takes over Moreau's role at TE1. Meyer comes in as the highly touted rookie who will push to start. Howard is a monster athlete who was a 1st round pick, hopefully he turns the corner in the NFL in this TE friendly system.
Defense (24)
Edge (4)
Crosby, Jones, Wilson, Willis
Current All-Pro Crosby and former All-Pro Jones return as starters. Wilson is the physical freak future, but might take some time to grow into the NFL game (and get 100% healthy from foot surgery in 2022). Willis is a highly productive versatile player from the Niners that will surprise with his consistency and versatility.
DT (4)
Nichols, Tillary, Young, Farrell
Nichols and Tillary return as the projected starters but there should be plenty of competition and rotation from recent draft picks Young and Farrell. Edge players Wilson and Willis can both play inside in packages as well making this position deeper than it appears. Recent draft picks Silver and Butler head to the PS.
LB (5)
Spillane, Deablo, Masterson, Burney, Pola-Mao
Spillane comes over from the Steelers at MLB. Deablo returns as the off-ball starter. Pola-Mao puts on 15 pounds in the offseason to play a hybrid LB/S role. Masterson and Burney provide depth and ST.
CB (6)
Shelley, Hobbs, Hall, Bennett, Facyson, Webb
Shelley comes over from the Vikings to start opposite Hobbs on the outside. Hall returns as starter in the slot. Draft steal Bennett will push heavily for playing time and could be starting by season end. Facyson and Webb provide 'big corner' depth and ST.
S (5)
Moehrig, Epps, Smith, Johnson, Teamer
Moehrig enters an all important 3rd season looking to prove he deserves an extension. Smith is another draft steal that could push Moehrig for his job sooner than later. Epps comes from the Eagles to take over the SS role. Johnson and Teamer are hard hitting role players.
Special Teams (3)
Carlson, Cole, Bobenmoyer
Carlson and Cole are the best duo in the NFL. Raiders go cheaper and younger at LS.
