I'm a little embarrassed about this. In my latest Ballers & Busters for the Raiders' game against the Broncos last Sunday, I named just two Ballers -- Sio Moore and Justin Tuck. Now, it appears I may have missed an egregious mistake that would probably have changed my analysis.

One of the things Sio Moore is typically known for is his hustle. But as NFL Network's Mike Mayock noticed when anaylizing the game, there was one play on Sunday where his lack of hustle cost the Raiders big time.

With 3:00 remaining in the second quarter of the game, the Raiders were ahead 10-6 and were hoping to ride that lead or possibly extend it heading into the locker room. The Broncos lined up in 3rd and 8 and the Raiders had their chance.

Peyton Manning hit running back CJ Anderson in the flat and he broke several tackles on his way to a 51-yard touchdown. It was the play all the Raiders players agreed was when the tide turned. Or as Justin Tuck put it "It took the wind out of our sails."

In my Ballers & Busters, a great deal of weight was placed upon the missed tackles on that play due to the impact it had on the outcome of the game. It began a run of 35 unanswered points over the next 17 minutes of play.

There were three missed tackles on the play. The primary missed tackle came from Miles Burris as Anderson was his assignment. Anderson slipped through the feeble attempt and then it was up to Khalil Mack and Charles Woodson but Anderson made a move, they left their feet, and he escaped their grasp as well. Then it was off to the races.

That's where Mayock noticed (and I didn't because I was focusing on the missed tackles) Sio Moore come into the area and promptly stop going after it and begin walking. Then once Sio realized Anderson was not tackled, he still didn't go full board to stop him. He jogged over and trailed the play, not making an attempt to tackle him despite plenty of opportunity.

Mayock broke down the play in his Coverage Gaps segment, but I took a video of the play. You can see right about the time Mack and Woodson are attempting to tackle Anderson, Moore comes in at the top of the screen, walking.

It was very much like the kind of play we had come to expect from Rolando McClain during his time in Oakland. Certainly not something we expect from the player with the nickname 'Juice'.

For the most part, the Raiders defense was throttled by Peyton Manning and the Broncos. The Raiders offense was even more inept, though it seemed partially due to their own terrible play.

Sio Moore was supposed to be one of the few exceptions. Granted Sio came all the way from the opposite side of the field to get there, but there is never an excuse for that lack of hustle. It's the very reason the Raiders are in the situation they're in. Sio gave up on the play, and after that the rest of the defense gave up as well.

In a game few expected the Raiders to win, they were done in by the end of the third quarter. That's when the Broncos had gone up 41-10 and took Peyton Manning out of the game in favor of Brock Osweiler. Of those 41 points, 35 of them were scored in within a span of 17 minutes between the end of the second quarter and the end of the third quarter. Those points went unanswered.

It's times like these when it can be hard to find anyone who doesn't deserve blame, let alone a pat on the back, but if there is anyone in there, it's my job to find them, while offering specific reasons why certain players or coaches contributed greatly to the loss. So, here we go, the B&B for a week the Raiders would just as soon forget.

Ballers

Sio Moore

Yes, a Baller. And his fine performance wasn't just relegated to the first 25 minutes while the rest of the defense was keeping their head above water. Sio's first positive play came on the second play of the game. DJ Hayden picked off Peyton Manning and Sio was partially responsible for it. He had good coverage on Emmanuel Sanders, forcing Manning to try and drop the ball over him. The ball sailed and Hayden was in position to haul it in.

After a field goal to take a 3-0 lead, the Broncos got the ball back and drove into scoring position. That drive stopped short of the goal line in part because on second and goal, Sio stayed with his assignment to push him out of bounds for no gain on the catch. They would settle for a field goal. On the following drive, he had another bit of great coverage to force and incompletion. Three plays later, they would settle for another field goal.

The Raiders would put a touchdown on the board on the next series to take a 10-6 lead and it was up to the defense to try and maintain it. Sio certainly did his part when on the following drive he added a pass defended, a run stuff, and another bit of tight coverage to tackle his man for a 1-yard completion. This time they were forced to punt.

He had already shown his prowess in coverage and run support, so he added pass rush by getting pressure up the middle to force Manning into an intentional grounding penalty. That series ended in a three and out.

The game soon got out of hand, but not before Sio started the next series wit ha run stuff. In the second half he would add three more run stuff, one for a three yard loss, and a hit on Manning on a short pass.

UPDATE: Upon further review: Sio Moore dogged it on backbreaking play

Justin Tuck

While playing half the snaps in this game, he made a much larger impact. His big play came early in the second quarter when he rushed in on Peyton Manning on an attempted screen pass, leapt in the air to tip the ball and then corralled it for the interception. The Raiders would get the ball at the 12-yard line and score a touchdown a few plays later to take a 10-6 lead. He was an enabler for the defense much of this game, assisting on a run stuffs, a tackle for loss on a catch in the flat, and getting into the backfield to allow for another tackle for loss. If only he could perform this well as an every down defender.

Honorable Mention

Brice Butler -- He had two catches in the game, both were key to the points the Raiders had in the game. He had a 7-yard catch on third and five on the first drive for a field goal, and had the touchdown in the second quarter to give the Raiders the 10-6. It was a nice catch on a great throw from Derek Carr.

Betweeners

D.J. Hayden

He made one big mistake in this game. Outside of that, he had a pretty good day against Peyton Manning and the Broncos elite passing attack. That one mistake was the Broncos second touchdown of the day where he got torched by Emmanuel Sanders for a 32-yard score. It came just before halftime to put the Broncos up 20-10 and sucked the life out of the Raiders. However, it was Hayden who on the second play of the game, helped breathe life into that defense when he picked off a high pass from Manning to set up a Raiders field goal to put the first points on the board.

He would have two more passes defended in the game, one on third and nine to force a punt and another in which he stayed right with Demaryius Thomas on a long attempt and nearly intercepted in the endzone. Later he would be the victim of a well called play by the Broncos that resulted in him essentially getting picked to give up a touchdown. He would finish the game having given up four catches for 63 yards and two touchdowns, but also had an interception, 3 passes defended and 3 tackles. He left the game at the end of the third quarter with a groin injury of unknown severity.

Yesterday's game against the Denver Broncos seems like the story of D.J. Hayden's career. He shows what kind of skills and potential he has but it is short lived as he is soon sidelined with an injury.

It didn't take long in this game for Hayden to put his stamp on things. Peyton Manning dropped back on the second play of the game and tried to fit a ball in over coverage from Sio Moore and the ball sailed over the head of receiver Emmanuel Sanders and into the waiting arms of Hayden.

The interception was the natural next step after Hayden dropped two interceptions last week in his first extensive action as the team's nickel corner. He was promoted to started this week with the injuries to Carlos Rogers and T.J. Carrie and showed the skills that made him the 12 overall pick two years ago.

Unfortunately, it wasn't long before he also soon showed the same injury issues that have caused him to miss half of last season, the entire off-season, all of training camp and pre-season, and land on the PUP list for the first seven weeks of this season.

Hayden came up injured after a tackle early in the second quarter. He returned to the game initially and played into the third quarter. But after that he was taken out of the game and received treatment on the trainers stable for a groin injury.

The injury is cause for concern, especially for Hayden who has been unable to stay healthy during in his short time with the team. Even more troubling is the fact that it was a groin injury that landed him on injured reserve last season, missing the final eight games of the season.

"We're still getting some information on that right now as we speak," Tony Sparano told Bay Area radio station 95.7 The Game. "But he did leave the game with a groin (injury) yesterday. That's something that we'll have to monitor here moving forward, take a look at it. I should know more here in another hour on that."

If the injury turns out to cause Hayden to miss some time, it would be another blemish on an already injury plagued early NFL career for the former top pick. Thus far he has only played eight full games with three starts out of 25 games played over the past two seasons.

He has appeared in a total of 11 games as a Raider with career totals of 2 interceptions, 7 passes defended, a forced fumble, 2 groin injuries, and 36 combined tackles (31 solo).

This game started out fun for Raiders fans, but that didn't last very long. Unfortunately, 35 unanswered points has a way of taking the fun out of things.

Well, at least the first 20 minutes of this game were pretty exciting for Raiders fans! The rest of the game was an abomination, but that first quarter was pretty exciting with Oakland leading 10-6 before the Broncos offense woke up and rattled off 35 straight unanswered points.

There really isn't much to say about the outcome of this game. The Denver Broncos are one of, if not THE, best team in the NFL and the Raiders are winless for a reason. Everybody other than the extreme optimists and the crazies knew going into this game that the Raiders were going to lose, the question was just how much would they lose by. The answer? A lot.

It is pretty funny that the Raiders had been so lacking in creating turnovers throughout this season but then they opened up against Peyton Manning with not one, but two interceptions very quickly. The Raiders even scored points off of those turnovers, it is how they got that early lead. If that was the defense that was going to be seen throughout this game then the Raiders might have actually rewarded the optimists and the crazies for their unadulterated hope of a win for the home team in Oakland.

Sadly, that was not the defense that was going to be seen throughout this game. One big play by the Broncos offense that featured several missed tackles by the Raiders defense ended all of that momentum. That 51 yard catch and run by little known 2nd year, undrafted running back C.J. Anderson changed the entire tune of the game and jumpstarted the previously dormant Denver offense. After that, the Raiders defense fell off a cliff as the Broncos offense became absolutely unstoppable.

Two things made that one play so debilitating. One was the gluttony of missed tackles that included three that should have stopped Anderson short of the first down on the 3rd down play, and the other was that the Raiders offense went three and out with a punt directly after such a shocking play.

Having had Anderson stopped several times before the sticks had that TD be the most demoralizing play of the whole season for the Raiders, and then they had to immediately come back on the field afterwards. That is a recipe for disaster. It was not surprising at all that just four plays later had the Broncos in the end zone again with a 20-10 lead.

Even with those two touchdowns in under 3 minutes of playing time, the game still wasn't out of reach for the Raiders if they could have gotten something going in the second half. Instead, Derek Carr threw the ball in traffic to an ineligible offensive lineman who then tried running the ball despite not being allowed to have been the receiver on the play.

Khalif Barnes was the recipient of the strange play, and he then fumbled the ball while running with it when he shouldn't have even caught the damn ball in the first place. It wasn't even a minute into the second half of a still close (ish) game and they had already turned the ball over deep in their own territory. It was a boneheaded play by Derek Carr who we can only hope did not realize it was Khalif standing by himself on the play, and it was even worse by Barnes for trying to run when he should have known he was clearly an ineligible receiver.

It was no surprise after all of that mularky that the Broncos offense went hog wild on the Raiders defense. Can you imagine being on the Raiders defense and watching that fumble, especially after they just had a terrible finish to the first half too? There was no chance of Oakland coming back from that circus like atmosphere.

The few bright spots in this game are hard to find, but one of them was D.J. Hayden getting that interception on the first drive of the game. After an up and down game that featured Hayden all over the field last week against the Seahawks it was especially exciting to see him make a big play right away in this one. He is clearly feeling confident this season and it is a notable difference from his rookie season to this year.

Another bright spot is the play of Mychal Rivera who again had a nice performance with 6 catches for 68 yards and a TD that came in garbage time after the Broncos had already went on their 35-0 run. Rivera was a late round steal last year and he is really looking like a quality player for years to come for the Raiders. We are starting to really appreciate him for what he brings to the field and not just his ridiculously attractive sister.

(Gif by SB Nation)

The heralded rookies of Derek Carr and Khalil Mack were unfortunately not bright spots in this game though. Mack only got 1 tackle in this game, though he did force a fumble that was not recovered by the Raiders. Derek Carr's stat line wasn't that bad at all but he had big rookie mistakes that hurt the Raiders in the game. He had 2 interceptions and that ill fated, dumb pass to Khalif Barnes.

Rookies are going to have games where they don't play as well and this was one of them. They didn't play bad enough to be worried about them going forward, but this was a game that they both would like back. I expect both players to bounce back nicely from their performances this week.

As for the team itself, they are going to need to find a way to pick themselves up after a terrible loss to a tough opponent. They go from one divisional game here to two more afterwards facing the Chargers in San Diego and then the Chiefs at home now.

This is actually a fortuitous schedule right now for the team because they do get to go and play another divisional rival right away after being embarrassed by one. These are the games that teams really get self motivated for just because of the rivalry and so it is a good thing that they get another shot at a rival game so quickly after this game against Denver.

San Diego had started out very strong but have been struggling as of late. The Raiders played them tough the first time when they only lost by 3 points so hopefully they can resemble that team again next Sunday over the team that was on the field yesterday. We will see what happens.

The Raiders are now 0-9 on the season which means that if they don't win against the Chargers next week they will have reached double digit losses without having gotten their first win yet. That is not something that this team ever thought would be the case coming into the season so hopefully they can finally get their first win to stop that embarrassment from coming to reality.

Every week the Raiders already putrid run game seems to stoop to a new low. Sunday against the Broncos showcased just how little faith the Raiders have in their abilities on the ground.

The Raiders had 15 runs in this game, 13 by running backs. That is tied for their season low in run attempts. Those 15 runs resulted in just 30 yards of offense which, surprisingly, isn't their lowest total on the season -- they had 25 yards on 15 carries in the season opener.

That shows you the Raiders running woes started with they first touched the ball this season and have carried through the season as a big contributor to their continued winless season that has now reached 0-9.

Last week in Seattle, I noted the Raiders hadn't run the ball the entire game on third down. A total of 15 third down plays and they passed on every one of them. That disparity continued this week where the Raiders had 18 third down attempts and again did not attempt a single run on any of them. I asked Tony Sparano about this and he was candid in his response.

"We've tried [running on third down], ok. We've tried it a couple times," said Sparano. "We've run the ball in several situations on third and one and have come up short. We took a chance and threw the ball. And I don't know if we had a real third and one today. I'm not positive in that situation, a true third and one that was out there today but I know we threw one time, which I think was naked and I believe he completed it to Rivera."

When Sparano says he tried running on third down and it didn't work, it goes back a while. The last time they ran on third and short was in the second quarter in Cleveland three weeks ago. They handed the ball to Jamize Olawale up the middle on third and one and he was stopped for no gain. That was the second time the Raiders had gone to Olawale in the situation this season to the same result. After the second time, Sparano had seen enough.

The problem is that the third down efficiency with the pass in the past two games has not been good either. In 33 third down attempts, they have converted 10 of them, five on 18 attempts against the Broncos Sunday.

Having to throw on third down puts a great deal of pressure on rookie quarterback Derek Carr. That pressure no doubt contributes greatly to his 30% conversion rate. Also all three of the Raiders turnovers, including Carr's two inteceptions, came on third down.

"It's hard," said Carr. "When you have a running game it opens up play action type things, the bootleg type things. When sometimes teams maybe don't think you'll run it and you do certain things, it's hard."

It's a tough situation for a rookie quarteback to be in. Any good offense needs to be well-rounded and the Raiders are anything but. Even Tony Sparano, an offensive line coach by trade with a strong belief in the run game, has abandoned the run.

The irony here is the fault lies mostly in the the play of the offensive line which Sparano himself helped construct over the past two seasons. So, the decision to give up on the abilities of that line to get the push they need to pick up tough yards is an informed one.

It's one thing for outsiders to lose faith in the abilities of the Raiders running game. When the man who put this line together, coached them for the past two years, and starts them each week takes the game completely out of the hands of the ground attack and the offensive line to win battles on the field, that's a damning indictment. It's also damning for the chances of this 0-9 team to find a win over their last 7 games.

It was midway through the second quarter Sunday between the Raiders and Broncos in Oakland. In a bit of a surprising situation, the Raiders had the lead over the Broncos 10-6 and it appeared have Peyton Manning rattled and under constant pressure. Then with exactly three minutes left in the first half, everything changed.

Rewind three minutes when the Raiders started their drive at their own 20-yard line. They had driven 20 yards downfield and converted a third and one along the way. Then on third and two, Carr attempted a pass to Mychal Rivera and it sailed to be picked off.

But that isn't the play where the Raiders believe it turned. At that point the Raiders defense had every reason to believe they would stop the Broncos and get the offense the ball back. And they nearly did. A short run of 2 yards on first down was followed by Khalil Mack getting pressure on Peyton Manning to force and incompletion. It set up 3rd and 8 for the Broncos.

That's when it happened.

Peyton Manning got to the line and he went to the well he had gone to several times already. He threw out left into the flat for running back CJ Anderson who broke a few tackles, went up the left sideline, cut back towards the middle, got a couple blocks downfield, and navigated his way 51 yards for the touchdown.

Just like that, the Raiders lost the lead and the momentum, and set off a domino effect of 35 unanswered points for the Broncos to lose 41-17.

Charles Woodson recounts the moment it started to unravel.

"We're up 10-6 and there was a third down situation where we could get the guy down," said Woodson. "Either get him down or get him out of bounds and all the sudden they're leading. And we get the ball back and there's another touchdown and it's 20-10. And it's like 'how the hell did that happen?'"

Justin Tuck, who had an interception early in the game that led to the Raiders' first touchdown, also saw that as the pivotal moment it all went wrong.

"We had a couple missed tackles there and it took the wind out of our sails a litle bit," said Tuck. "We also gotta figure out ways to finish games. One week we start slow and finish great and next week we start fast and finish crappy. . . Regardless of you are and who you play, the games are always about momentum. You can see it. You can see it when it happened and we gotta figure out ways to come back to that sideline, regroup and come back and keep the intensity that we had in that first quarter."

Suddenly the Raiders were not the same on either side of the ball. What began as a smothering pass rush, two turnover, and two scores, turned into a porous defense and a toothless offense unable to get a first down.

After the Broncos took the lead on that 51-yard play, the Raiders answered with a three and out. The Broncos came out and converted two-straight first downs and then a 32-yard touchdown pass to Emmanuel Sanders. That's the second play that Woodson spoke of that put the Broncos up 20-10 heading into halftime.

"Those are on us," Woodson continued. "That was our fault. They got a good team, one of the greatest quarterbacks to play the game, but that was two plays. I look at those two plays. I know as a team we'll look at those two plays before half and say 'wow, how did that happen'."

The Broncos would come out for the second half and score three touchdowns in the third quarter alone and the game was over before the fourth quarter began.

The drives in the third quarter looked like this:

Raiders -- Turnover on a fumble
Broncos -- Touchdown
Raiders -- Three and out punt
Broncos -- Touchdown
Raiders -- Turnover on interception
Broncos -- Touchdown
Raiders -- Three and out punt

It was 41-10 at that point and Peyton Manning didn't play a snap in the fourth quarter.

This team is demoralized and they realize at this point that when they begin as they did in the first 25 minutes of this game, they can't afford to give up the lead like that and then play catch-up. Especially against a Peyton Manning led team.

Someday they might have the faith to regroup and get back on track. But without a single win on the season, they have no reason to believe they are capable of doing it this season.

What began in surprising fashion ended pretty much as expected. After taking an early 10-6 lead, the Broncos scored 35 unanswered points to cruise to a 41-17 victory in Oakland.

The Raiders won the toss and elected to give Peyton Manning and the Broncos the first crack at things. And on the second play of the game, that decision worked in their favor. In his first start of the season since returning from the PUP list a few weeks ago, DJ Hayden picked off Peyton Manning. It gave the Raiders the ball at the Denver 49-yard line to begin their first series.

The Raiders drove the ball 23 yards but after a series of short passes ended in short gains and a loss, they could get no further and settled for a field goal to take a 3-0 lead early.

The Broncos would answer with a long drive of their own for what was looking like an easy touchdown but the Raider defense stiffened at the goal line and held them to a field goal of their own to tie it up at 3-3. To be fair, they were helped by a Broncos false start and Peyton Manning missing a wide open Ronnie Hillman for a would-be touchdown. But the result was the same.

After the Raiders couldn't mount a drive of their own, the Broncos got the ball back and began moving right back toward the Black Hole. They would get a big gain on a pass interference penalty from Tarell Brown to set up in first down at the Oakland 15-yard line.

After a penalty and a couple good stops by the Raiders, the Broncos remained at the 15-yard-line on third down as the second quarter began. The Raiders would make their second red zone stop and hold Denver to a field goal to go up 6-3.

Once againthe Broncos were looking to add to their lead in the second quarter but Justin Tuck got in the backfield on a screen attempt, leapt in the air and tipped the ball to himself for the interception. The Raiders got the ball at the 12-yard line and on third down, Derek Carr hit Brice Butler on a post pattern in the back of the endzone for the touchdown and a 10-6 Raiders lead.

Again, the Broncos were driving but again Manning was having passes batted down. Pat Sims and Justin Ellis batted down passes at the line then DJ Hayden stayed with Emmanuel Sanders on third down for a pass defended to force the punt.

With the Raiders clinging to a 4-point lead, the Broncos got the ball late in the second quarter. On the second play of the drive, Manning threw a short pass in the flat to running back CJ Anderson who broke several tackle attempts and took off for a 51-yard touchdown.

Now with a 13-10 deficit and just over two minutes remaining, the Raiders would get one more chance to repsond.

The Broncos, on the other hand, would respond and quickly drive for a touchdown of their own on a 51-yard catch and run by CJ Anderson for the score and a 20-10 lead heading into halftime.

The second half would begin in bizarre fashion. Derek Carr was swarmed on a pass attempt and completed a shovel pass... to Khalif Barnes... an ineligible receiver... who fumbled. The Broncos declined the penalty and took the ball in scoring position. A few plays later they punched it in on a 10-yard pass from Peyton Manning to Julius Thomas to extend the lead to 27-10. This one was getting away quickly.

From there the Raiders offense looked worse and worse while the Broncos continued to score. The Broncos would score again on their next drive on another Manning connection with Julius Thomas, this time from 34 yards out.

Derek Carr answered the Broncos touchdown on the next drive with a perfect pass... to Broncos safety, T.J. Ward for an interception. Tony Sparano was flagged for throwing the challenge flag when he wasn't allowed to do so and the Broncos took over at the Oakland 34-yard line.

In a couple plays, the Broncos were in the red zone looking to put the nail in the coffin before the fourth quarter began. They would drive into the redzone in three plays and finish it off with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Manning to Emmanuel Sanders.

And with a minute left in the third quarter, that was the last time we would see Peyton Manning. After another ugly three and out by the Raiders, Brock Osweiler would enter the game for the Broncos looking to ride out the game and leave Oakland with a decisive victory over the hapless Raiders.

Manning wasn't the only one to exit, the fans were also making their mass exodus. They'd seen enough of this one, as had the rest of us. And there was still a whole quarter left to play.

That quarter was a mind-numbing 'let's get this over with' display by both teams. The Raiders added one of their signature garbage time touchdowns at the end when Derek Carr hit Mychal Rivera from 18 yards out with :48 seconds left for ourfinal score of 41-17.

The inactives are out for the Raiders vs Broncos. Among the notable players inactive for both teams are Raiders cornerback T.J. Carrie and Broncos running back Montee Ball. Here are the full lists of inactives:

Raiders

QB Matt McGloin
CB Carlos Rogers
CB Chimdi Chekwa
CB TJ Carrie
OG Gabe Jackson
OG Tony Bergstrom
TE David Ausberry

Carrie and Carlos Rogers being out for the Raiders means D.J. Hayden will get his first start of the season. Behind him playing the nickel will be Neiko Thorpe. Luckily rookie Keith McGill returned this week so they have a fourth cornerback. They're already down three corners going up against Peyton Manning.

Starting in place of Gabe Jackson at left guard will be Khalif Barnes.

Broncos

RB Montee Ball
CB Tony Carter
RB Kapri Bibbs
LB Nate Irving
OT Paul Cornick
OT Michael Schofield
TE Virgil Green

Montee Ball returned this week for the Broncos and was questionable or the game. Had he played, he was expected to share carries with Ronnie Hillman.
